Kids on Mullum Child Care Centre - Kinder

4 to 6 years

Our 4-year-old kindergarten room can have 33 children per day, and follows a one educator to 11 children ratio. The kinder program is led by 1 qualified early childhood teacher and is assisted by qualified early childhood educators.

We provide a comprehensive 4-year-old kindergarten and school readiness program which runs between 8:30am – 5.00pm daily.

Kindergarten Program

Our 4-year-old kindergarten program runs all day from Monday to Friday. Children must attend a 4-year-old funded kindergarten for at least 15 hours per week to qualify as a funded child, so children would need to be enrolled for at least 2 full days. The child needs to be turning four by April 30th of their 4-year-old kindergarten year. Families are welcome to decide which day/s they would like their child to attend kinder (pending availability).

This is the final room at Kids on Mullum Child Care Centre before children leave for school. There are core daily routine times for meals and generally children no longer require a sleep. If they wish to rest, they will always have the opportunity. Each child is observed and planned for to prepare them for school.

Our play-based curriculum is interactive and exploratory involving interaction with a rich variety of sensory materials such as mud, sand & paint, and equipment such as puzzles, lego & music. We also incorporate as many ‘real life’, meaningful play experiences as possible, e.g. threading, home corner. As educators, our first priority is to instill a love & appreciation for meaningful learning, thus helping to ensure children reach their full potential in later years. It is through this child-oriented play-based curriculum that children gain a range of important school readiness skills. By providing small group activities such as home corner and block corner, we believe this gives children the opportunity to work on social and problem-solving skills, e.g. working out an issue between two or more children, turn taking, sharing

Outdoors, children have access to sustainable experiences as well as areas to run, explore and engage in quiet, solitary play. Educators provide many small and whole group experiences, both indoors and out, to encourage cooperation and build on social skills such as turn taking and sharing.

Our kinder teachers help families with the process of moving onto primary school. Formal teacher interviews are available at any time at the family's request, to discuss development in the year prior to school. At the end of the year, children celebrate with a kinder graduation ceremony.

Even though the children are now in Kindergarten, they are still exposed to all of the benefits of being in the childcare centre environment such as catered meals and the opportunity to mix with children of all ages.
